The album Tjudrad och Lämnad att Dö from Analfabetism builds on stories told along the Swedish East Coast. Stories told in horror, of how the Russians came 300 years ago to burn, plunder and wreck havoc. Homes were burned to the ground. Cows were brutally murdered in broad daylight. Old ladies were being chased up trees. And most of it is probably not true.

Less known on the East Coast is what happened on the other side of the Baltic Sea, and went on for nearly a century. Homes were burned to the ground, cows were brutally murdered, all while the king of Sweden got very, very rich and had monuments built in his honour.

The album is inspired by the Swedish genocide in Western Russia, and is based on sounds recorded by Analfabetism at the only remaing weapons factory from thaty era: Wira Bruk. Here swords were forged, to be used to slaughter Russian farmers and their cattle alike.

Simplistically eerie sounds are the primary genetic makeup of this mostly unknown, to me, act that has now come to be represented by the highly acclaimed Malignant label. Sparse, yet harsh, bewildering and yet somehow soothing, oppressive and yet it never completely overwhelms the listener in a manner of needing to escape its grasp. Verily, this act and album succeeds in transporting the listener back to a more golden era of lo-fi power electronics and noise. Wonderful and macabre stuff, this. Cody Drasser
